Some of the most misrepresented and underestimated wines and cheeses in the world can truly make the best pairings, and Righteous Cheese is gonna show you all the deliciousness you can find in these miscalculated wines & cheeses.
Spend an evening with Righteous Cheese in an intimate class discovering and savoring seasonal, artisanal cheeses. We’ll explore the world of cheese pairing by tasting 4 cheeses and 4 wines with reputations that just don’t do them justice. Wednesday, May 22 | Bazaar Spices | Everything Ethiopian | 6:00pm
Chef Mikey Torres, in collaboration with Bazaar Spices at Union Market, will teach you how easy Ethiopian cuisine can actually be! We will teach you about many of the different ingredients and spices used in Wot; a bold red spicy stew usually made with Chicken (Duro Wot) or Lamb (Yebeg Wot). You will also learn about Injera, a spongy and tangy “sourdough” bread that is served with every Ethiopian meal! Chef Mikey will teach you the time honored cooking techniques used in Ethiopian cooking, as well as a modernized quick technique perfect for busy and hungry Washingtonians! DC Mobile Sharpening is introducing a new line of cutlery from Japan manufactured by the major brand Tojiro! A representative from the company will be visiting the Market on Saturday to discuss the line, show off the knives, and talk about why sharpness is so important. Come to check out the Tojiro line and meet one-on-one with the manufacturer.

Join Salt and Sundry for a special book signing with “Cooking With Love” author Carla Hall in Union Market. First making her mark on the culinary world here in DC, Carla has become a popular food personality and acclaimed chef nationwide. After competing on Bravo’s food competition series “Top Chef”, Carla returned to “Top Chef All-Stars” and won Fan Favorite with her larger-than-life personality and passion for cooking from the heart. Carla is now a co-host on ABC’s lifestyle series ‘The Chew” and lives in Washington, DC where she owns and operates artisan cookie company Alchemy by Carla Hall. Her new cookbook, “Cooking With Love,” offers over 100 delicious recipes that are soul-satisfying, and promise to serve up “comfort food that hugs you”. Join Peregrine Espresso for a two hour class at their coffee bar to learn the basics of espresso and milk technique. Learn from our experienced instructors–many of them award-winning baristas–on our professional equipment. By the end of the class, you will be equipped with the skills necessary to produce standard espresso beverages and will also receive a 12oz bag of coffee ($14 value) to practice with at home. Celebrate Israel turing 65! Featuring an Israeli artisan and vendor market, an Israeil beer and wine garden, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, and a wide variety of Jewish food. Lots of live entertainment featuring entertainment on two stages, including: Mosh Ben Ari, Mook E, Moshav, The Mama Doni Band, The Macaroons and Orthobox as well as a Family Zone with arts and crafts, games, face painting, an “archeological dig” and a Book Nook.

The DC Scoop is back! Held on National Ice Cream Day in its third year, you can taste (and judge!) the District’s best ice cream, gelato, custard, frozen yogurt and other summer treats! Foodies, have no fear, you’ll be in good company! Stirrers and shakers of the DC Food Scene will serve on a panel of judges to determine the 2013. DC Scoop Winner! A kid-friendly event with activities for all ages.
