Unlocking student potential by raising reading achievement.

Reading Partners is a nonprofit whose mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering community volunteers to provide individualized instruction that produces measurable results.

By following our easy to use and research-based curriculum, our community volunteers provide twice-weekly, one-on-one literacy tutoring to kindergarten to fourth-grade students who are struggling with reading.

During the 2018-19 school year, we are serving 925 students at 19 Title I elementary schools across Washington, DC. To learn more, visit our website.

Can you share just one hour each week with a student who is struggling to read?  Become a reading partner today!

By becoming a reading partner and volunteering as little as one hour a week, you can help a child learn to read. Reading Partners provides an evidence-based, easy-to-use curriculum and on-site staff support to enable volunteers to be effective tutors. You bring your commitment, and Reading Partners will help you with everything else.

Devoting just one hour each week to a student can make a tremendous impact. Last year, 88% of Reading Partners DC students met or exceeded their end-of-year literacy growth goals.

Can’t volunteer but still want to help?
Every student enrolled in our program can take one book home after each tutoring session to build their own home library. To supply these books, we are always in need of age-appropriate, culturally relevant children’s books! Donate books to Reading Partners students by buying from our hand-picked wishlist at Politics & Prose, or purchase books in-store at 1270 5th Street NE, just a few minutes walk from Union Market!
